The Concierge Desk: A Recipe for Academic Success

It is the beginning of a brand new semester. You have freshly sharpened pencils, brand new binders and overpriced textbooks piled on your desk. While your nights now may be spent hanging out with friends and relaxing, soon your nights will be taken over by endless tests, essays, reading assignments and quizzes. Luckily, St. Norbert College is here to help every single student have a tremendous amount of academic success. St. Norbert has many opportunities for students to meet with tutors and other resources that strive to help achieve an optimum level of academic success.

Last year, Academic Support services created the concierge desk. The concierge desk is a place where experienced tutors can help students in an informal setting, after regular office hours.

The concierge desk is located at the help desk on the first floor of the Mulva Library and is open from 6-10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday. The concierge desk is informal, meaning no appointment is necessary. Every student is more than welcome to stop by and get advice on how to get the most out of their classes. A student can be helped with tips on note taking, studying, time management, departments TA hours or any other question a student might have concerning their academics.

Workers at the concierge desk are there to help point students in the right direction, which may be helping a student get a formal tutor. However, it could also be helping a student figure out a note taking strategy that works the best for them. The concierge desk is open to all students, however it is a really great resource for first-year students. The transition from high school to college can be difficult and the concierge desk can help students make the transition as smooth as possible.

This quick and ready resource is a great tool for all students to use. The next time you are in the library, make this semester your most successful one yet and stop by the concierge desk!
