St. Norbert College’s Dance Marathon team plans to host its second Dance Marathon event at SNC on Saturday, Oct. 25 from 9 a.m. to 10:06 p.m. in Schuldes Sports Center.
Dance Marathon is a fundraising event for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, specifically the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. At the event, participants fundraise and dance for 13.1 hours, following the motto of “standing for the kids who can’t.”
Eight “miracle families” were able to attend last year’s event and this year organizers hope to have 12 families.
This year the team hopes to reach their goal of raising $30,000 and having 500 participants attend the event. Last year’s event raised $21,372.01 and had around 315 dancers registered.
This year Dance Marathon is also starting a “zero zeros” campaign- in other words, all participants must raise something in order to attend the event.
“Fundraising so far has been a huge success,” said Nicole Haupert ’15, one of the Dance Marathon Co-Presidents. “People writing emails, sending letters, using Facebook and just talking about our event are our biggest sources of fundraising.”
Continuing preparation, the SNC Dance Marathon team is working to spread more awareness on campus and in the surrounding community.
“It’s really exciting to see more awareness spreading,” said Rebecca Liming ’15, also a DM Co-President. “So many more people are getting involved and coming together to help the kids.”
SNC students are invited to participate in “For the Kids Fridays” by wearing their DM gear (t-shirts, bracelets, etc.) every Friday and meet in front of Main Hall to take a group selfie.
National Dance Marathon Day is on Friday, Sept. 25 and SNC DM’s Recruitment Week is set for the first week in October. Different small events and activities will be going on throughout campus during these times, including the “Miracle Maker” shake making an appearance back at Ed’s.
