There’s no denying that we have great food at St. Norbert College, from dinner favorites at Phil’s, cafe-style pizzas and sandwiches at Ed’s and a wide range of food at Ruth’s Marketplace. With the caf closed on Saturdays (except for brunch) and closing early on other days, though, there are still meal options for us Green Knights. Whether you have a craving for sandwiches or pizza by the slice, there are many choices for food right next to campus!
Erbert’s and Gerbert’s is located on the corner of Main Avenue. They serve a wide variety of sub sandwiches, soups and treats like brownies and chocolate chip cookies. The prices are very reasonable (around $4 to $6 for a sandwich) and they also take Custom Cash. They have many options to couple-up your sandwich with soup, a side or a fountain drink. They also have great hours for the late-night eater: they are open Sunday to Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. at night, and Friday to Saturday they are open from 10:30 a.m. to 2:45 a.m.. The staff is very welcoming, and Ebert’s and Gerbert’s is currently hiring general staff and delivery drivers if any St. Norbert students are looking for a job.
Polito’s “pizza by the slice” is a pizza joint that can be found at 310 Main Avenue. They have a huge range of pizzas, from specialty slices to your traditional cheese. They also have a decent menu of side orders: garlic knots, Brew City fries and wings that come in an array of flavors. Their macaroni and cheese pizza is a favorite of mine, and the buffalo chicken pizza is another fan favorite. Polito’s is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on the weekdays, 11 a.m. to 3 a.m. on Friday and Saturday, and is (unfortunately) closed on Sundays. Polito’s is a great choice for the late-night muncher, and their options of ordering just a slice of pizza for $2.50 to $3.25 are a great bargain: their slices are the biggest I’ve ever seen.
Another popular option amongst St. Norbert students is the Luna Café. Luna is open from 7a.m. to 6 p.m. daily and can be found a few shops down from Polito’s at 330 Main Avenue. The coffee shop has an expansive menu, ranging from your traditional cup of joe to frappes, smoothies and shakes. Luna also serves wraps, pasta salads, soups and quiches if you need a quick fix for lunch. You can also buy bags of their coffee, t-shirts and coffee tumblers and presses. Luna is a popular place for St. Norbert students to meet with study groups or study independently. It is a nice but close place to take a break from being on campus, and the quiet jazz music, cozy chairs and tables make it a great study spot.
There are many other food locations right by campus, such as Big Apple Bagels, SALT, Lion’s Head Tavern, De Pere Buffet, Pizza Hut (which accepts Custom Cash!) and Toppers Pizza. All of these establishments serve great food and drinks and are great to visit on the weekend when you have the time to sit down for a nice meal. Of course, the SNC food is still a great choice that won’t let you down!
