The 2015 Relay for Life of De Pere took place on Saturday, April 11, in the Schuldes Sports Center on the St. Norbert College campus. This is the 18 time that SNC has hosted the annual event.
Relay for Life is an event founded by the American Cancer Society. Relay for Life events are held annually in many places around the world. The goals of the Relay are to give communities a chance to celebrate and honor the lives of those who have battled cancer, remember lost loved ones and fight back against the disease by fundraising and creating awareness.
This year’s Relay featured many of its traditional events from the past, including a Survivors Lap to celebrate those who have battled cancer in the past and a Caregivers Lap to honor those who have helped to care for people with cancer.
Throughout the day there were several other activities going on: participants could visit a photo booth for group pictures, play various “Minute to Win It” games, the “Dude Looks Like a Lady” competition, balloon animals, Zumba, a silent auction and 50/50 raffle.
There was also a Balluninary Ceremony, which allowed Relay participants to pay tribute to loved ones lost to cancer and show support to those who currently have cancer. At the very end of the event, all the Relay participants gathered to release the balloons into the sky.
This year’s Relay for Life of De Pere succeeded in raising over $40,000 for the American Cancer Society in the fight against cancer.
