Agape Latte is one of the newest programs to join St.Norbert College that allows guest speakers to share their stories on the intersection of life and faith and help students reflect on their own journeys thus far. In addition to sparking and stimulating conversations, students can enjoy some free coffee and treats.
The first Agape Latte program will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 22, at 8 p.m. in the Campus Center. From 8-8:30 p.m., Davis Cox ‘17 will be providing some musical entertainment, after which the guest speaker, Father Jay Fostner, O. Praem., will be taking the stage to share some of his experiences. Fostner will be speaking about his time assisting the Berkley Police Department while pursuing his graduate degree in psychology in his talk called “Where Jeans and Hoodies Meet God.”
Agape Latte was first discovered by Fostner while he was at a conference at Boston College. He brought back this knowledge and asked Mission and Ministry to determine if it was a good fit for St. Norbert College.
Students, along with staff of St. Norbert College, then traveled to Boston College to see for themselves what this new program was all about. After seeing the program and talking to the coordinator at Boston College, the students and staff decided it would be a great program to bring to St. Norbert.
“My favorite part of Agape Latte is how different it is from other programs on campus. First, it is a very little time commitment, unlike other guest speakers. It’s short and sweet, and there are tasty treats!” said Carly Barry ‘16, a student that helped to start the program.
Agape Latte is intended to start conversations that might not usually take place. It will give students a little extra push to talk about the topics they might never have otherwise considered discussing.
“Agape Latte gives students a look into the lives of the people we interact with on a daily basis, including the faculty and staff. It’s so interesting to hear different stories from our faculty and staff when we are outside of the classroom. Come check Agape out; you will not be disappointed!” said Barry.
Agape Latte’s second program will be held on Nov. 3. Once the program gets going, it hopes to have about three programs per semester. Visit Agape Latte’s Facebook page, Agape Latte SNC, for more information and to find out about upcoming events.
