St. Norbert Abbey hosted Peter Richard Conte and Andrew Ennis on Saturday, Oct.17, at 2 p.m. as part of the 2015-2016 Canon John Bruce Organ Series.
The Canon John Bruce Organ Series is an annual program of concerts featuring the organ of St. Norbert Abbey. The Reverend Canon John O. Bruce was a priest of the Episcopal Diocese of Fond du Lac who had a good friendship with the Norbertines of De Pere and a deep love of music. The organ of the abbey especially captivated Bruce, so he set up a fund to ensure continued maintenance and future renovations, as well as organ concerts for the public. Thanks to the fund, organ concerts featuring world-renowned instrumentalists are free and open to the public each year.
Peter Richard Conte performed on the organ for the concert. Conte, who also performed at the Abbey in 2011, has been the Wanamaker Grand Court Organist for over 20 years and has been featured on National Public Radio and ABC’s “Good Morning America.” Andrew Ennis played the flugelhorn during the concert. He began playing organ in 2012 and studies with Conte. Pieces in the concert included “Moonlight Music” by Richard Strauss and “Finlandia” by Jean Sibelius.
There will be two more concerts in the Organ Series in the spring of 2016. Hector Olivera will perform on Saturday April. 26, at 2 p.m., and Gregory Hand will perform on Saturday, May. 21, at 2 p.m.
