This year’s concert featured Brahms’s “German Requiem,” as well as Mozart’s “Ave Verum Corpus” and “Alleluia,” and Birder’s own arrangement of “For All the Saints.” As in previous years, a full orchestra accompanied the Chorale. Kent Paulsen, Baritone, and Courtney Sherman, Soprano were featured as soloists.

Emily Herman ’16 gave her senior vocal recital at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 1 in Dudley Birder Hall. Herman, a soprano and double major in voice performance and physics, studies under Linda Feldmann. Her recital included the entire “Exsultate Jubilate” by Mozart, “Adieuz, l’hotesse Arabe” and other songs by Bizet, “Chi il bel sogno di Doretta” by Puccini and others.

Herman currently plans to attend graduate school for voice/opera performance and would like to perform and teach voice at a university. Taught by her father to read music before she could read English, Herman first joined choir in the fourth grade.

Asked why students should attend recitals, Herman said, “Student recitals typically feature music from the baroque era through contemporary music, so there is something for everyone.”
