The world has been buzzing about the latest installment in the “Star Wars” franchise since it was first announced. Now that there’s been both a teaser and two full trailers, it should be obvious to many why there is so much excitement and anticipation for “The Force Awakens” release.

After the highly anticipated final trailer was unveiled Oct. 19 during Monday Night Football, many movie ticket sites crashed due to the abundance of eager fans trying to purchase their tickets for opening night. Even more impressive is that, over the 24 hours after the trailer premiered, it had already grossed over 112 million views on YouTube. The mounting ticket sales and trailer views paint a great picture of fans’ excitement for what’s next in the “Star Wars” universe, but living up to all of those fans’ expectations is another monster.

Resurrecting one of the most beloved sci-fi film franchises in history isn’t an easy task for anyone. The “Star Wars”franchise has arguably one of the most highly devoted fan bases, and it has a large universe to expand upon. After Disney stepped in and bought the rights to the franchise, it was time to find a new talented director to create the magic once again. Luckily, Disney has selected the right person for the job: J.J. Abrams.

Abrams is very talented and is not a stranger to large undertakings. In 2009, he tackled the well-known sci-fi franchise “Star Trek.”Both the 2009 reboot and the 2013 sequel were highly acclaimed by long-time fans and critics alike. This great success is due to one large fact: J.J. Abrams is a fan at heart and has so much respect for the mythology and characters in these beloved universes. This makes him an ideal candidate to take on a new beginning for “Star Wars.”

From the trailers and interviews, it seems Abrams wants to bring the authenticity back and expand upon the universe that we all know and love.

As he said in an interview at the “Star Wars” celebration in Anaheim, California, “it’s ‘Star Wars,’ and you have to allow it to be inheriting what it’s been. The trick is to be forward-thinking but also to embrace this incredible foundation that was built before.”

From the practical effects over CGI to the re-introduction of other iconic characters, J.J. wants the overall film to hearken back to the original trilogy that we all love so much. So fans, don’t fret: “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is in good hands with Mr. Abrams. Look forward to returning to a galaxy far, far away on Dec. 18, 2015.
