“Captain America Civil War”
Release Date: May 6, 2016
Two of Marvel’s powerhouse heroes, Captain America and Iron Man go head to head after political interference causes a rift between allies in the Avengers’ team. The film is sure to be an exciting, action-packed and possibly much different film from Marvel. Captain America’s previous film, “The Winter Soldier,” is considered to be one of the best Marvel films to date by many, including myself. I have a strong feeling this film will continue an excellent streak for Cap’s story and the other Marvel heroes. It’ll be a treat to see these two powerhouse heroes battle it out as well as introductions of new characters to the Marvel film universe.
“10 Cloverfield Lane”
Release Date: March 11, 2016
It’s almost impossible for movies to be kept completely secret in today’s world, but J.J. Abrams, the producer on the film, has managed to surprise many with “10 Cloverfield Lane.” What’s so exciting about this film is the mystery and suspense the trailer has already introduced by showing a group of individuals trapped in a bunker with something terrible happening outside above them. The ending of the trailer leaves me wanting to discover what’s truly happening in their world. J.J. Abrams has stated that the film is a “blood relative” to one of my favorite found footage films from 2008, “Cloverfield,” which makes the excitement even greater.
Release Date: May 27, 2016
The third installment of the newest X-Men films by return director Bryan Singer, will introduce a new and formidable villain from the X-Men universe named Apocalypse. The previous two installments were excellent re-introductions to the popular X-Men characters, and this next entry looks to be the biggest yet. The X-Men, including Professor Xavier (James McEvoy) and Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) are forced to assemble their team to stop the distraught Magneto (Michael Fassbender), who has teamed up with Apocalypse to create a new world order for mutant-kind. It’ll be an interesting and intense battle to witness come this summer.
“Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice”
Release Date: March 25, 2016
Marvel has their heroes going into an epic showdown in “Captain America: Civil War,” but on the other side, DC Comics does as well with two of the most iconic superheroes ever, Superman and Batman. Henry Cavill returns as Superman, while Ben Affleck takes on the huge role of Batman. The film drops these two huge heroes into an epic showdown after Superman’s alien nature and pure power is questioned by the Dark Knight himself. The film also contains popular villain Lex Luthor, played by Jesse Eisenberg, and will be introducing Wonder Woman, played by Gal Gadot. This film will be epic in action and iconic scenes and will be an introduction to the DC Universe’s superhero team, The Justice League! I’m looking forward to watching this battle and inevitable formation unfold on the screen this spring.

With Marvel’s huge line of superhero films the past years, 2016 is the time for DC to make a bigger name for itself in the film world. David Ayer takes on directorial duties for the DC universe’s villain story. The “Suicide Squad,” as they’re known, is a rag-tag group of supervillains given a shot to redeem themselves by being sent on a heroic mission that will most likely lead to their demises. Jared Leto’s role as Batman’s arch nemesis the Joker is surrounded with mystery and anticipation, as is the introduction to Harley Quinn’s film character. The “Suicide Squad” will likely be a lot of fun to watch and will have a much different feel than the traditional superhero film.
