Currently the St. Norbert Women’s Hockey team sits at 12-5, good enough for third in the Division III NCHA standings. The Green Knights sit below two of the best hockey programs in the conference, Lake Forest College and Adrian College.
After finishing the 2014-15 season at 16-7-4, the Green Knights are looking to go deeper into the tournament and capitalize on the eight-game winning streak they pulled off earlier this season.
First-year coach Meredith Roth, who replaced Rob Morgan, and her three leading seniors, Emily Chandler ’16, Lauren Roethlisberger ’16 and Myranda Hayes ’16, have fought hard to get where they are.
“The seniors are workhorses; they are so invested, said Coach Roth. “And their goal is to win a national championship.”
The undying passion of the team can be seen in Ashwaubenon native, Lauren Roethlisberger. This season, Roethlisberger has eight goals and eight assists for a total of 16 points. With six games left in the regular season, she is four points away from breaking the St. Norbert Women’s Hockey career scoring record most recently held by Zoe Kurth ’14 of Fairbanks, Ala. Perhaps needless to say, Roethlisberger is excited about the monumental accomplishment on which she is closing in.
“It’s definitely a personal goal of mine to reach or break it,” says Roethlisberger.
But even with a career changing record in her grasp, Roethlisberger is still focused on the team as a whole, stating, “The success of the team has been my main priority rather than individual accolades.”
The determination of this young and dedicated team will continue to show throughout the rest of the season by way of its seniors. On their backs, the Lady Green Knights will continue on their great journey and keep growing as a team.
If history were indeed to repeat itself, said Roethlisberger, the Green Knights will play their best hockey in the second half of the season and hopefully continue on to a hard-earned championship.
