The No. 2 seed Green Knights welcomed No. 3 seed Marian University Sabres to the Cornerstone Community Center on Friday to start their two-game NCHA Harris Cup Playoffs semifinal series. St. Norbert was crowned the 2016 NCHA champion and is looking to win the Harris Cup and advance to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
St. Norbert got off to a great start in Game One on Friday night. The first period was extremely physical, and St. Norbert played most of it in their offensive zone. Roman Uchyn ’19 scored in the first period for the Green Knights, who went into the first intermission tied 1-1. Chris Rygus scored in the second period to give the Green Knights a 2-1 lead going into the third period. Uchyn’s and Rygus’ goals were all the scoring the Green Knights would need, but Ross Pavek ‘17, and Tanner Froese ’18 both chipped in third period goals in the 4-1 St. Norbert win.
The Green Knights needed a win or a tie in Saturday night’s game in order to advance to the Harris Cup Championship. Michael Hill ’16 scored 2 minutes 29 seconds into Game Two for the Green Knights, and they never looked back on their way to a 5-2 victory. Uchyn, Pavek, Froese, and Erik Cooper ’16 also scored for St. Norbert. Goalie Tony Kujava ’17 made 17 saves in the win.
St. Norbert will travel to Adrian, Michigan to face #1 seed and defending Harris Cup Champion, Adrian College, for the Harris Cup Championship on March 5. The Green Knights are looking to capture their eighth Harris Cup Championship in 10 years.
