On Friday, the No. 3 seed St. Norbert women’s hockey team began their two game NCHA Slaats Cup Playoffs semifinal series on the road against the No. 5 seed Lake Forest College Foresters. This series marked head coach Meredith Roth’s first Slaats Cup appearance from behind the Green Knights bench.
In Game One, St. Norbert’s Reagan Chadwick ’18 opened the scoring with a goal just 18 seconds after the opening faceoff. Jillian Kosteck ’17 also scored in the first period, and the Green Knights led 2-0 at the first intermission. St. Norbert’s Jessica Schlaff ’19 scored the lone goal of the second period to give the Green Knights the 3-0 lead. Lake Forest scored midway through the third period, but that’s all the offense they could generate. St. Norbert took Game One, 3-1.
St. Norbert came into game two on Saturday needing to win or tie in order to advance to the Slaats Cup Championship. The Green Knights and Foresters skated for 60 minutes, but no one was able to put the puck in the back of the net. Green Knights goaltender, Leigh Grall ’18, had 15 saves in the scoreless contest.
The Green Knights will travel to Adrian College to face the No. 1 seeded Bulldogs in the Slaats Cup Championship on March 5.
