Rough Start for Green Knight in Florida

NATASHA GEIGER | SPORTS EDITOR

In sunny Clermont, Fla. the Green Knights softball team started off their 2015-2016 season. The Green Knights competed with eight other teams in the Dot Richardson Spring Games, but unfortunately went 0-8 on the week.

Having eight games under their belt will help for the upcoming season of conference play and will allow for some young players to find their place on the team. The experience of a week-long tournament helped young players like Gina Mastrodomencio ’18, who tallied a handful of hits throughout the eight games, compete and find a niche.

With only one senior on the team, the young players will be looked upon to come up big during the season to beat out some of the top teams in the Midwest Conference like Lawrence University and Carroll University.

With both of this weekend’s doubleheaders canceled due to weather, the team looks to kick off the true season in good fashion against UW-Oshkosh on Wednesday, April 6. Their home-opener is scheduled for April 16 against Grinnell College.
