Disappointing Quad Contrasts Successful Season

The St. Norbert men’s track team entered the Simpson College Invitational and St. Norbert College Quadrangular last weekend coming off a first place finish in the St. Norbert College Invitational on April 23. St. Norbert scored 145 points on their way to beating the nine other teams at the invitational, which they hosted. UW-River Falls finished in second place with 98 points.

This season hasn’t been an easy one for the Green Knights.

“We’ve had some key losses and some injuries that have put some pressure on other people to step up and perform. I’ve been happy with how they’ve responded,” said head coach Don Augustine. “Colin O’Brien, Ryan Grandlic, Brad Boockmeier and Evan Broyles are four of our best leaders. They work extremely hard and compete at a high level when we need them most,” elaborated Augustine.

The 400-meter dash runners have performed exceptionally well for the Green Knights this season. St. Norbert swept the top three places in the 400-meter dash at the St. Norbert Invitational on April 23.

“We’ve had five [400-meter dash runners] break 50 seconds this year,” commented Augustine.

“The 4×400-meter relay qualified for Drake Relays and will run for a chance to go to Nationals this weekend. And our throws and jumps group has also stepped up this season and it will be important for that group to have a great Conference meet” said Augustine.

The Midwest Conference meet is scheduled for May 13-14 at Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa.

“Our goal was to improve this year and have our best performances at the Conference meet,” said Augustine.

Despite the early injuries, up to this point in the season, it looks like the men’s track team is well on its way to meeting its goal. The men’s track team is looking to repeat as Midwest Conference Champions this year.
