The St. Norbert College community continues to mourn the loss of two of its own, Adam LaLuzerne ’16 and Kurt Ahonen ’17.

On Thursday, Sept. 8 at 7 p.m., Old St. Joseph’s Church will host a Christian memorial service, which the SNC community is invited to attend.

The service will begin with an opening welcome from President Kunkel, followed by leading prayers from Fr. Jay Fostner, O. Praem., and Fr. Andrew Ciferni, O. Praem. Faculty and students will then share readings as well as leading the members of the service in songs.

Julie Massey, Associate Vice President for Mission & Student Affair, said, “It’s also nice to be able to give our own campus community a chance to come together and have another opportunity—for some people a second opportunity, but for some a first opportunity—to gather in prayer with the community, to grieve and to remember these two fine young men.”

The main focus of the service will be centered on particular alumni, staff and faculty that have been asked to share their reflections of Adam and Kurt with their families and the community. There will then be the opportunity for members of the service to light a candle.

Students are encouraged to bring photos that can briefly or extensively share the memory that it represents: cards, notes or stories that share how they knew Kurt or Adam or both students, joyful memories that were shared with them, and the impact they had on people’s lives.

“So much of their lived experience is electronic versions of photos. So we think that the families would really cherish and appreciate photos they might not otherwise have access to […] I hope people will feel encouraged that they don’t have to write the longest or most profound thing, just share with the families a glimpse of their sons lives here,” stated Massey.

After the service, a small reception with light refreshments will be held in the foyer of St. Joseph’s Church for those who would like to attend.

The service is a time for unity and support in prayer with students, alumni, staff, faculty and the LaLuzerne and Ahonen families.

The St. Norbert Times sends its condolences to the families and friends of Adam LaLuzernce and Kurt Ahonen.
