Green Bay Films Hit the Big Screen at SNC

St. Norbert College is a proud host of the Green Bay Film Festival this year on March 3-5.

The first Green Bay film festival was held in 2011 in downtown Green Bay with a mission to provide a rich cultural experience for the community while promoting the talent of Green Bay. The Green Bay Film Festival’s goal is to be an outlet and teaching opportunity for community members.

This year, the film experience is right in your back yard…literally. The Green Bay Film Festival will be held on the St. Norbert campus this year throughout various buildings including Bemis, Dudley Birder, the Cassandra Voss Center and others.

The Green Bay Film Festival hosts a variety of movies for any potential interest a viewer may have. There are documentaries, horror movies, romantic comedies and even more. Multiple movies will be shown at different locations throughout St. Norbert, so the options are endless. No matter your interests, there is sure to be a movie you will enjoy.

The Green Bay Film Festival is also offering free seminars that students are encouraged to attend. These seminars will be hosted on Saturday and Sunday March 4 – 5. There are a variety of topics to choose from including special effects, film scoring and more. These seminars will be held in the Abbot Pennings Hall of Fine Arts.

If you cannot make it to the Green Bay Film Festival, don’t fret. There are opportunities to see these films throughout the months of Feb. and March. The Green Bay Film Festival is offering Films Around Town, which includes many films throughout the city of Green Bay at different locations.

I was fortunate enough to be invited to a screening at Luna Cafe in De Pere with five short documentaries. The documentaries varied in themes and genres, however each were stunning in their own ways; anything from refugees, to silly inventions to, my personal favorite, a daughter growing up with two deaf parents.

This event allowed local filmmakers to showcase their work and also allowed others to be touched by it.

Each documentary had its own strengths and brought a specific message to the table. No matter where your interests lie in movies, there is something to please everyone.

The Green Bay Film Festival is sure to bring many movies from local artists to showcase their talents and gifts with Green Bay. Tickets can be bought online, and the entire schedule is available at
