Love at SNC: Date Ideas to Charm Your Fellow Green Knight

Despite Valentine’s Day now being behind us, February is typically looked at as the month of love and relationships. Many of you may feel the need for grand romantic gestures, however, there are many things to do on and around campus that won’t break the bank, or require transportation other than your own two feet.

1. Grab a coffee from Ed’s. Ed’s is truly a gift from above, with numerous different coffee drinks and smoothies (and great food!) available for purchase. Ed’s is an ideal date spot due to its central location on campus in the Mulva Library, as well as its casual atmosphere and affordability. Ed’s is also a great place to propose a study date.

2. Take a trip to Luna’s. Going along the same vein as Ed’s, Luna’s is another coffeeshop just up the road from campus, close to the Long Branch Saloon and Polito’s. Luna’s is a favorite SNC hangout, with people coming to do homework, unwind, or catch up with friends. Luna’s is another ideal date spot because not only will you be supporting local businesses, but you’ll also be getting a great cup of coffee.

3. Walk along the river. One of the best things about our campus is the fact that it’s located along the banks of the Fox River. The De Pere Riverwalk and Wildlife Viewing Pier is a nice way to escape from the campus atmosphere and walk along the waterfront. What’s particularly special about the Riverwalk is the number of padlocks on the cabling along the viewing point – couples put their initials on padlocks and lock them to the bridge, reminiscent of the Love Lock Bridge in Paris, France.

4. Paint pottery together. Paintin’ Pottery is a hands-on art studio located just across the bridge from campus. Here, you can paint your own pottery starting at only $10, featuring a huge selection to choose from. Paintin’ Pottery also has stencils, stamps and an idea book for the less creatively-gifted. If pottery isn’t your thing, the studio also has events for wine glass painting, mosaics, glass fusing and many other options.

Above are only a few ideas from the many opportunities we have in the De Pere area. Other easy choices for dates might be getting brunch at Julie’s Cafe or Nicolet Restaurant, getting dinner at El Presidente or even just hanging out on campus. Don’t let the month of love pass you by!
