St. Norbert Women’s Golf will be traveling to the Meadowbrook Country Club course in Recine, WI to compete in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Championship over the weekend.
The team will be taking six of its players, though only five will compete each day. Of those five, the four lowest scores will be counted. If St. Norbert wins the conference championship, it will secure a birth to nationals in the spring.
The six women going to the meet are Kayley Sjoholm ’20, Elizabeth Bobinski ’20, Amy Holzer ’20, Taylor Obry ’20, Bree Borgen ’23, Lucca Kenyon ’22.
Of the six women going, four of them are seniors who have been playing since their first year at St. Norbert.
“We have been playing since our first year together and are very close,” said Holzer in an interview.
The tournament is a week sooner due to the NACC schedule, however the team feels prepared to compete even though it may be their last time.
“You want to play with a positive mindset because you want to make nationals, but it is surreal to be our final meet together,” said Holzer.
However, the team has an advantage because they have played on the Meadowbrook course in a preview two weeks ago, in which Sjoholm and Bobinski took first and second, respectively, while also taking the tournament as a team.
In addition, the move to the NACC gave the team a new schedule with all different competition, giving them insight on how the other colleges play.
If the women take the conference tournament, they will have to wait until finals week spring semester to play in nationals. To prepare over the long winter months, the team has purchased a new golf simulator that can help them analyze their swing while the courses are snowed over.
However, for Kayley Sjoholm, who is graduating this semester, this will be her final meet no matter what the outcome. Sjoholm has conference player of the week in the last three tournaments and is a strong candidate for conference player of the year.
Best of luck to all this weekend!
